YAYY!!! The mercury has finally decided to drop and you can feel the slight chill in the air. Happy days! I absolutely love this time of the year, when I finally get to flash my pretty outerwear. I have carefully selected all the items in my winter wardrobe, from different parts of the world, catering to different levels of winter. Since I am in Mumbai at the moment, It would mean light cardigans, trench coats and jumpers, however in colder regions like the North, one would require to get their cashmere and thick overcoats going.
Keeping all kinds of winter in mind (Heavy, medium to barely there), I have come up with a list of must-have chic outerwear this season.
Parka : These are great for rough weather, hail, rain or snow. Perfect if you like hiking and trekking as well. The heavy padding/quilted ones make sure you stay warm in the most adverse conditions.
Faux Fur : Faux fur, in my opinion is just another word for preppy, high-fashion statement. It instantly transforms a dull winter outfit into a sassy one. This is also my personal favourite as it can be worn in not so cold conditions and they make sure you don’t break into a sweat. They are best worn as vests, as they make one look extremely bulky due to their fluffy nature.
Plaid/Houndstooth : This is a typical winter time print/material and a classic. One must have at least one of these in their closet.
Kimono/long cardigan : These are perfect for a light winter like for e.g. in Mumbai town. They are perfect balance between casual and chic. Can be worn with Shorts, dresses. leggings, overalls, anything really!
Blanket Poncho : Burberry Prorsum has to be given all credit for bringing in this trend in full form. Their classic signature ponchos are a rage all over the world. While the ones from Burberry will cost you about 900 GBP, you can get stylish versions much in your budget from Zara or Asos.
Trench: Another trend made famous by Burberry, adams ago, still remains one of the winter season staples. This is definitely not for regions with heavy winter, as the material is really light to protect against strong wind/rain and light cold. I love these as they have a very english look to them and are great for Mumbai winter.
Jumper : Whats not to like?! Jumpers are a winter staple. You can dress them up or down. Use them for layering, like I used to back in the US and UK during heavy winters. For light winters wear them over collared shirts or wear them under light vests. Christmas jumpers are my favourite!!
